RB’s Lounge of Fantastikal Adventours

RB & their girl Friday take us on a veritable tour of stories about one epic night at Queerioke with their queer butch masculine of center Filipinx/Islander/Native Hawaiian crew. The deeper into the night, the more LA off-shore breeze pushes away the fog and the mist to reveal RB & Friday’s crew is a fantastical array of creatures from a chameleon being accused of being inauthenticity, to a self-deprecating scorpion and a giraffe who has been living the last 10 years of their life in a turtle shell.

This epic night each story is a metaphorically or literally witnessing RB & Friday’s crew busts out of their shells. Not another coming out story - but a queer butcha Filipina/x - Islander stories of these growing older friends. These are the family of friends there for you to come into yourself.

Artistic Insight

My work explores the intersections of the South Bay of LA and its cultural reverberations and imprints on how to see the world. I explore queerness on bigger bodied and differently bodied queer Filipina/x/e bodies. This particular work is interested in exploring the intersections between masculinity, care, love, connections, and making visible a community that people do not see and/or think about. Sharing stories of a masculinity in the flow with kindness and softness; the quiet power of masculine women.
